Each May, just before the academic year draws to a close, Grade 6 students from Nashoba Brooks School embark on a highly anticipated overnight excursion to coastal Connecticut. Visiting Project Oceanology, these students gain a hands-on, interdisciplinary experience while also creating a bridge between the Grade 6 earth science curriculum they have been engaged with all year and the life science curriculum they will explore in Grade 7.
The trip to Project O is a highlight of the Grade 6 experience for Nashoba Brooks students, who relish the opportunity to investigate environmental issues in the real world while engaging in the collaborative style of learning they enjoy at School. In addition to personal growth and independence, the girls build community through group activities and make connections between physical oceanography and marine biology.
